LIMERICK FC have made their first new signing ahead of the 2013 season with the capture of former Ireland U19 cap Stephen Folan.
The Galway native has been without a club since leaving Newcastle United last summer as he had initially tried to find a club in England, but a serious injury while on trial at Northampton Town stopped his progress.
Folan held talks with Sligo Rovers and also spent time training with Shamrock Rovers, but new Limerick boss Stuart Taylor has persuaded Folan to move Shannonside. Now 21, Folan spent four seasons with Newcastle but was unable to break into the first team.
Limerick fans will welcome the arrival of Folan as he's the first new signing, though manager Stuart Taylor has re-signed key members of last season's promotion-winning squad such as Pat Purcell, David O'Leary, Rory Gaffney and Shane Tracy.
Limerick begin the new season -- their first in the top flight since 1994 -- with a game at home to Cork City at Thomond Park on March 8th.
