Lennon sore at Burley for 'silly' shout to sack Celts
Neil Lennon has hit out at Craig Burley after the TV pundit claimed that the Celtic players should be sacked if they fail to win the title.
Burley spent two-and-a-half seasons at Parkhead in the 1990s and spoke out after Nikica Jelavic was sold to Everton by Rangers.
The financial meltdown at Ibrox saw Ally McCoist unable to bring in a replacement for Jelavic, with seven players moving out and only the Swede Marek Celik arriving.
Celtic led Rangers by a point in the SPL with a game in hand but Lennon is taking nothing granted with a third of the season left.
Asked about the sacking quote the Celtic boss said: "That's a really good quote isn't it? It's something that punters in the pub would say.
"For someone who is an ex-professional, who now broadcasts for a company that follows the game and tries to enhance the game up here, he is disrespectful to the rest of the SPL clubs. It's silly, uncalled for and none of my players will be getting sacked.
"There are a lot of people outside the game looking in, who don't put anything into it and just want to talk it down.
"If you look at the players who have left (the SPL) in recent years, Alan Hutton for £9million, Craig Gordon £9m, Aiden McGeady £11m and Nikica Jelavic for six or seven, you wouldn't get those prices in the Championship, so it's not all doom and gloom.
"It's having a negative impact on Scottish football. These people have a platform and they influence people's opinions. A lot of the time, their responses are uneducated, they lack the information required and it makes them look silly at times, which it has this week."
