'Kevin is a top talent' says Pat's boss Liam
Liam Buckley believes that former Premier League star Kevin Toner will only get better following his move to St Patrick's Athletic from Aston Villa.
The defender was still in his teens when he broke into the Villa side at the end of the 2015/16 season, when Villa were relegated, though Toner did make four Premier League appearances.
He has been unable to get back into the side at Villa, spending time on loan with Walsall, Bradford and Stevenage. A number of League of Ireland clubs were keen on the Meath native once he expressed a desire to come home but Pat's have won the race, a major coup. "We're all delighted to get Kevin's signature here at Pat's," Buckley said.
"Kevin is a top talent and proved himself at Aston Villa by making appearances at the highest level in the Premier League. He's one of a number of young talents in our squad and we believe he can develop as a footballer here and progress in his career.
"I believe Kevin can fit in with the group we're building for the season ahead and can play a big role for us during the 2018 season."
Meanwhile, defender Jordi Balk has left Pat's and returned to Holland, signing for third-tier side Lienden.
