Keogh wins new deal with Derby

DERBY County have moved to fend off any future bids for Ireland defender Richard Keogh by agreeing a new three-year deal with the player.

Keogh was under contract with the Rams for this season but with rival clubs sniffing after the centre half before the transfer window closed earlier this month - Burnley were keen on Keogh - Derby wanted to secure his future and have done that with a new deal.

"It's fantastic news that Richard Keogh has signed a new contract; he's our leader and a fine player," says Derby boss Steve McClaren.

"He was the only one left to sign new terms and the future is bright for this football club."

Rams CEO Sam Rush added: "Richard Keogh's time at Derby County has seen him earn international honours and he is a highly respected leader within the dressing room and the club as a whole, so we're delighted that he has put pen-to-paper on a new contract."

Ex-Ireland defender Liam Daish has been named as the new boss of Conference side Nuneaton Town.
