Keane tipped for MVP

ROBBIE KEANE is in the running for another award as the Ireland captain has been nominated for the Most Valuable Player in the MLS.

And his LA Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan believes that the Dubliner deserves to land the top individual prize in the US league.

"I think it'd be hard to argue that he's not the MVP," said Donovan after Keane was included on the three-man shortlist.

But Keane says he's not hung up on the idea of landing the prize. "If I get it, great," he said.

FORMER Ireland U21 cap Jonathan Hayes has committed his future to SPL side Aberdeen by signing a new contract. Hayes (26) has been a big hit at Pittodrie since he moved there last year and the Dons have moved to extend the Dubliner's contract until 2016, one of three players to sign a new deal.

ST PATRICK'S Athletic have given their fans a boost ahead of next season with news that striker Daryl Kavanagh has signed a new contract.

Kavanagh rejoined the Saints from Cork City midway through last season. They also handed a new deal to defender Lorcan Fitzgerald.
