Keane: José's claim for greatness is 'nonsense'

ROY Keane didn't waste any time on his return to television punditry before wading into Jose Mourinho's latest claim for greatness.

Before a ball had been kicked in Paris where he was working for ITV on Chelsea's Champions League tussle with PSG, Keane had punctured Mourinho's intense self-regard.

In a pre-recorded piece for the programme, Mourinho suggested that only the fickleness of football stood in his team's way now.

"The hard work is to build a great team and we are a great team. We did the hard work, which is to build a great team, now is the unpredictability of football," said the Chelsea boss.

But Keane was not so certain about Chelsea's current standing and didn't hesitate to say it.

"I think they have the potential to be a great team. He's clearly a great manager but they've got to back it up with some trophies. To say they're a great team at the moment is nonsense."

After the game, Keane underlined his point : "That wasn't a great performance. Chelsea were very poor defensively."
