reynolds leads way for Celtic
WAYSIDE CELTIC gained revenge for an earlier defeat at the hands of Dalkey United when they ran 2-0 winners in Jackson Park on Saturday morning in the SDFL Under 9 Division 4 section.
In a hard fought encounter the home side were worthy of the three points on offer, as they took their chances when it mattered to seal victory.
As early as the second minute they made their intentions clear when a thunderous drive by the Celts Jamie Reynolds, from outside the area, crashed off the cross bar and was cleared.
Minutes later the visitors were not so lucky as the home side took the lead when a Reynolds corner was only half cleared, and Jack Freeman slammed home from just inside the box.
But they failed to build on that score in the opening half due to United's 'keeper Luca Costanca, who was in flying form between the sticks.
The second half saw a different Dalkey take to the field and they were more than a match for their opponents, but poor finishing was to prove their downfall. Two clear chances went a begging when first Matthew Junghann blasted wide when in front of goal, then Eve Graham could not believe her luck when her goal bound effort was cleared off the line.
It was turning into a really good game and in spite of those missed opportunities the visitors were well in it.
But Reynolds was always dangerous, and he was well supported by Conor Duggan and Calum Dollans as they set him up.
Twice before he fired home the killer blow he came close with a drive from the edge of the area, that sailed just wide, and then when he rounded the keeper but scuffed his shot.
Those warnings were not heeded and when he latched onto a loose ball just outside the area there was always going to be one outcome, as he burst into the box and fired home.
