Hanrahan hat-trick has Pike closing in on MJC
There were mixed fortunes for Limerick sides Janesboro and Pike Rovers in yesterday's Munster Junior Cup ties, with the Hoops advancing but the Boro bowing out following a seven-goal thriller with Clonmel Celtic.
Pike cruised past the challenge of Wilton, winning 5-0 in a fairly one side provincial decider. Owen Hanrahan, with a brilliant hat-trick, was one of the heroes for the Shannonsiders.
However, Janesboro lost out 4-3 to Clonmel Celtic at Pearse Stadium. Pat Barry and James Hayes got amongst the scorers for the Boro in a game which went to extra-time after both sides were locked at 3-3.
Granville and Fairview to meet in FAI Youths Cup
Meantime, Granville Rangers will meet Fairview Rangers in an all Limerick FAI Youth Cup quarter final after both sides record wins yesterday.
Granville, who were behind at one stage, produced the performance of the day in a 4-2 win over Shamrock Rovers. Three goal Leo Maher claimed the match ball in a fully deserved victory.
Eamon O'Neill also netted for John O'Neill's side. Fairview beat Castlebar Celtic 4-0 away from home.
Geraldine's ship four as Rangers forge clear
Fairview Rangers leap frogged Premier League leaders Janesboro - but with two more games played - with a 4-0 win over Division 1A bound Geraldine's yesterday.
Two goal Mike Ryan and Tommy Barrett were on target for Rangers against their near neighbors who are rooted to the bottom of the table in Limerick's top flight with just one point after 13 games.
Regional United remain nicely poised in the race for the title with a 2-0 victory over Wembley Rovers, while Gordon Roe netted the only goal of the game to help Aisling Annacotty put more daylight between themselves and the bottom of the table versus Kilmallock.
Mungret Regional dealt a severe blow to Ballynanty Rovers title aspirations with a 2-0 win. Gerry Daffy and Ian Dunworth netted for Mungret. John Tierney and Rob Kelleher scored for Limerick FC in a pre season friendly win over Carew Park.
