Dunshaughlin plans for 20th anniversary THIS is an important year for Dunshaughlin Youths Football Club as it marks their 20th anniversary. And already they are putting together plans to mark the special occasion.

As part of their 20th anniversary celebrations this summer they are holding a gala family fun day at the local Community Centre in June. They are also currently putting together a booklet to mark this historic anniversary.

Many players have passed through the ranks at DYFC over those 20 years and the club are anxious to make contact with them.

So if you played for Dunshaughlin Youths at any stage and would like to be a part of the 20th anniversary celebrations and/or have a story to tell for the booklet please make contact with the club.

Further details are available from Club Chairman Cathal Dervan on 087 2432978, on the club website at www.dyfc.ie or you can email info@dyfc.ie

Balscadden counting down to May final day

THESE are exciting days at Balscadden Boys, especially the club's Under 10s, who have just booked a place in the NDSL Cup final extravaganza on the May Bank Holiday weekend.

They did so with a marvellous 4-1 win over Portmarnock to set up a final showdown with Ashbourne United.

The success of Balscadden has been a real team effort, not only from the players who this season have been superb on the pitch, but also the management team and the parents and families who lend great support each week.

Also a recent visit from FAI Coach Paul Keogh who came out to one of their training sessions proved invaluable to everyone involved as he lent his expertise to everyone connected with the team.

Having won the League last season, they are once again going well in the U-10E Division, currently lying in second place behind Rush Athletic, but with three games in hand.

In their semi-final against Portmarnock they played some delightful football to earn their place in the Cup final in what was a tight match despite what the scoreline might suggest.

After a scoreless first half -- thanks to some fine defending -- Balscadden found their scoring boots in the second half.

Two goals in the space of as many minutes from Jamie Fennell and Adam Pine put them in control at 2-0 and although Portmarnock pulled one back further strikes from Ryan MacDonald and another from Fennell secured the win against a battling Portmarnock.

The final whistle brought much excitement to everyone involved with the Philip Foster and Paul McQuirk managed team and they are now counting down the weeks to their Cup final appearance.

So take a bow on a wonderful season to date the squad of Ruairi Power, Tadhg Woods, Ben Keogh, Dylan Foster, Ryan Holland, Adam Carroll, Paul Whelan, Jamie Fennell, James Gannon, Aaron Lynch, Meghan Gannon, Ryan MacDonald, Luke Clarke and Adam Pine and also James Keenan who unfortunately hasn't played for some time due to injury, but will hopefully be back soon.

THE season is back up and running. And we want to hear your news. Anyone who wants to publicise their teams' achievements, promote a fundraising event, or simply get their team mentioned can do so by making contact with us on kevinpmckenna@eircom.net
