Development League to help new and old to thrive

The O'Neills Leinster Football League have announced that they plan to start a new 'Development League' next season.

The league will be aimed at helping newly-formed clubs get up and running. It is also aimed at helping those who have been out of soccer for a while but who would now like to reform. Another aim is to help teams advance from schoolboy to senior levels.

The LFL's development committee will advise those involved on what is required to run a club such as costs, insurance, rules and responsibilities of secretaries. Those who are interested in becoming part of this new initiative should contact the LFL.

Clondalkin claim O'Neills Team of the Month award

Clondalkin have been chosen as the Leinster Football League's 'club-of-the-month' for February.

"Clondalkin FC have shown great respect to officials of various clubs, to the committee and referees this season," commented LFL official Mark Breen.

"Although the season has been a bit of a roll-coaster for Eddie Byrne's outfit, they have kept with it and put football first. They will receive an O'Neills sponsored voucher."

This column is well aware of the great efforts Eddie Byrne and his friends have made to stay on the local football scene. It's recognition that's well deserved.

Team spirit cah help you reach new heights!

Irish soccer fans had a great opportunity to see Real Madrid up close and personal when they took part in a pre-season friendly against Shamrock Rovers last summer.

As we all know they were recently sent tumbling out of the Champions League by Lyon whose team cost a small percentage of the many millions it took to sing Ronaldo & Co.

What Lyon had was resolute team spirit that carried them through the storm. It showed that no what level you play at a solid team spirit and self-belief allied to a willingness to work hard can achieve a lot.
