Cats too crafty as Cashin hopes fade

Kilkenny........................................................ 3

SDFL...............................................................1

THE SDFL Under 12 Cashin Cup hopes hang by a thread after a disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Kilkenny, in the Waterfall Leisure Centre recently.

After a shaky start the home side began to take control of proceedings, and their hard work was well rewarded when they built up a commanding 3-0 lead.

After conceding those strikes it was always going to be a tough one to pull this rabbit out of the hat but, in fairness, the SDFL battled on gamely and they finally got on the score sheet.

Calum Pierson was the man on target and Mark Gordon also saw his effort just graze the post, but there was never going to be a miraculous recovery.

It's all down to the coaches now to pick the lads up and have them firing on all cylinders when they face tough opposition, in both Wexford and the DDSL, in their next two encounters.

U10 SDFL......................................................... 1

Beechwood U11 Premier...................................2

THE SDFL Under 10 squad were given their first run out of the season when they faced Beechwoods U11 Premier side and, although they went down on a 2-1 scoreline coaches, Paul Barry and Kieran Jones should be happy with the overall performance.

It was a goal with only four minutes remaining that finally killed off the U10s, who were more than a match for their Premier opposition and were worth at least a draw.

However, considering that this was their first outing as a team, the lads did a great job and, with a bit of luck in front of goal, could have caused an upset.

Kildare visit to Rathcoole for Wednesday joust

That will be followed on Saturday week, February 7th, with a trip to Wexford for both the U12 and 13 squads, while the lads on the U13s will have a second chance to impress the Kennedy Cup coaches when they face Roscommon the following week, Wednesday February 13th, in a rearranged fixture in Peamount.
