Burns on hand for Donagh's

St Donagh's Celtic......................3

Artane Celtic.............................3

The battle of the Celtics as two of the better footballing sides in Division 1 Saturday went head to head in Donaghmeade. Amazingly both sides sit around mid-table at present, nevertheless they put on a decent show for us.

The home side didn't take long to get into stride as Dean Watt fired them into the lead in the second minute. They continued to assert and had a second goal ruled out on 17. At this stage though it was looking like the points were staying at home.

A bizarre incident on 21 though saw Artane level matters. Anthony Sutton scuffed his intended clearance and Anthony Brady reacted, his deflected shot looped and was parried to the ground by Sutton.

The Donagh's 'keeper held his hand on the ball, seemingly to show the referee that it hadn't crossed the line and 'Hot Dog' Brady ran in and poked it to the net.

The visitors went ahead a quarter of an hour later when Tony White collected the ball in his own half and sped down the left wing. His pace afforded him a shooting opportunity, Sutton parried but Brady was on hand again to bag his second.

The Saints continued to attack after the restart but they found difficulty in getting past the Phillips boys at the heart of the Artane defence. They were sucker-punched somewhat on the hour mark when Artane were awarded a free 20 yards from goal.

Craig Macken's effort was touched onto the post by Sutton, the ball trickled along the line and Dean Phillips was quickest react and find the net. Artane looked comfortable thereafter and the points looked to be in the bag but with four minutes to go matters changed. Craig Macken's effort from just outside the box went across the goal but John Forster was lurking to score and set up a grandstand finish.

Two minutes later Donagh's won a free on the right and Neil Burns rose highest to head Karl Bourke's delivery to the back of the net for a share of the spoils.
