Jose sends out an SOS
Mourinho calls for big guns to return early from holidays
Manchester United's beleaguered boss Jose Mourinho has called on his World Cup stars to cut short their holidays and help his depleted side.
Several high-profile players from United's squad, including Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard are currently on holidays after their World Cup exertions and could miss the opening league fixture against Leicester City on Friday week.
England defender Phil Jones and forward Marcus Rashford are expected to shorten their breaks to help a struggling United squad.
Mourinho has suggested that other stars should do the same, including Pogba, who played in France's World Cup victory in Russia.
"I hope that the boys on deserved holidays take care of themselves a bit and that somebody wants to do what Rashford and Phil Jones decided to do, which is to be back a bit earlier to try to help the team because for the beginning of the season we are going to be in trouble," Mourinho said.
To add to Jose's woes, midfielder Nemanja Matic has become the latest of his players to pick up an injury in pre-season, with Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia also sidelined.
