Jones: We took Dutch for granted
MANCHESTER UNITED defender Phil Jones admitted his team paid the price for complacency in last night's 2-1 Europa League defeat against Ajax.
United led at Old Trafford but only progressed to the last 16 as a result of their 2-0 win in last week's first leg in Holland.
Jones said: "I don't think we were at our best (last night).
"We got off to a great start, scored and seemed to be in control of the game.
"But a little bit of complacency set in. We should have won the game and we will review our performance and take it from there.
"The manager said at half-time we've got to up the tempo and we didn't do that for whatever reasons. We weren't good enough in the second half, nowhere near."
On Stuart Pearce's decision to name Jones and team-mate Tom Cleverley in the England squad for next week's friendly international against Holland, the former Blackburn player added: "I'm delighted to represent my country. It's an honour and I'm pleased for Tom. He's been out for a long time but is a great little player.
"But we've lost the game and we're bitterly disappointed."
