John Delaney: Sepp stared at my partner and I told him to 'move on'
THEY may have had their very public disagreements, but John Delaney and Sepp Blatter apparently agree on one thing.
The FAI chief has revealed that when the under- fire FIFA president (79) met his partner he gave her the thumbs-up.
“He met Emma (English), my partner, in Vienna recently,” he said. “He stared at her for seven or eight seconds and he said: ‘I approve of your new girlfriend’,” Delaney said. “I asked him to move on, move on please.
“She is a great girl, I love her very much, it was an extraordinary moment. If she was here she would tell you herself. He stared at her and I said: ‘Move on’ – and he did.”
Delaney has been very open about his relationship with Ms English – a model who works in PR.
“We are very much in love. There is no question about that,” he said in a heartfelt interview last year.
English has previously called Delaney “exceptionally romantic” and said he was “like a big teddy bear”.
Speaking to RTE’s Ray D’Arcy yesterday, Delaney also recalled a previous row he had with Blatter, who this week announced he was stepping down as FIFA boss.
“In 2009 I called him an embarrassment to FIFA and to himself,” he said.
“He called me over about that, across the table like I am talking to you, with one or two expletives.
“That was in a room. He said, ‘No one speaks to me like that’, and I said, “Well I do’, and that was that.”
