James set for Euro run-out after injury
James McCarthy is in line for only his second start in 10 months this week as Everton end their European adventure.
The Toffees play away to Apollon Limassol on Thursday, a nothing game for them club as they have no change of progress to the Europa League group phase. McCarthy has started just one game, in the League Cup in October, this season but Allardyce says the Ireland man has worked on his fitness and could be able to play for an hour in Cyprus, in a weakened team.
"It's a dead rubber for us and it's a good opportunity for us to put the squad players in who have been short of games or just come back from injuries," Allardyce said.
"Someone like James McCarthy might just be fit again for 60 minutes."
Everton have just one point from five group games, only Vardar Skopje have fared worse.
