James McCarthy 'gutted' for Darron Gibson
IRELAND midfielder James McCarthy is bitterly disappointed over Darron Gibson's latest injury, which has ruled the Derry-born Toffees star out for the rest of the season.
Former Manchester United midfielder Gibson suffered a fractured metatarsal on the eve of last Saturday's clash with Southampton, an injury which may rule him out of action for the rest of the season and possibly Ireland's clashes with England and Scotland in June.
"I'm gutted for him," said McCarthy. "It's never nice to see a player get injured but I'm sure he'll return stronger and fitter and it will be brilliant to have him back." The Blues made it three league wins in a row with a 1-0 scoreline against Southampton thanks to a resolute and disciplined performance. The Toffees now head to the Liberty Stadium at the weekend and McCarthy says their increased confidence could be key.
"There's been a big improvement, obviously," he told evertonv. "I think the main thing is now that we go on a winning run and so far, so good. "But we won't get carried away, we'll take it a game at a time and next up is Swansea, who could be pushing for the European places. There's never going to be an easy game in the Premier League."
