Injuries force King’s hand for Liechtenstein clash

NOEL KING has been forced to make changes to his Ireland U21 squad for next week’s European Championship qualifier away to Liechtenstein.

The Irish side are eager to get back to winning ways after a defeat away to Turkey in the last game, and back-to-back wins over Liechtenstein over the next four weeks could send the Republic into the lengthy break with confidence – seven months before their next game.

But King has now lost three members of his original squad as defender Gavin Gunning (Dundee United), midfielder Jeff Hendrick (Derby County) and forward Sean Scannell (Crystal Palace) have all been withdrawn.

In their places come Enda Stevens (Shamrock Rovers), Conor Hourihane (Plymouth) and Joe Mason (Cardiff City).

Turkey lead the way in Group 7 with three wins from three games. Italy are currently in second place and ahead of |Ireland.
