In brief: Rovers drop first points of season in Brandywell draw

Shamrock Rovers hit a speed bump in Derry last night as they dropped their first points of the season with a 0-0 draw.

The opening exchanges saw both sides prodding for an opening. Ronan Finn found the first gap in the fifth minute when he rattled a shot just wide of Ger Doherty's post after Gary Twigg had switched play from the left.

Enda Stevens put Stewart Greacen under pressure with his forward punt and from the ensuing throw-in Gary O'Neill could only manage to push his shot over Doherty's bar.

Rovers keeper Alan Mannus was certainly the busier of the two number ones and his goalmouth was put under the cosh after the restart. Ken Oman first stopped a goal-bound Gareth McGlynn effort with a last-ditch diving header and then Mannus himself was put at full stretch, on the back foot, to tip over a dipping effort by Daniel Lafferty.

Dillon double sees off sorry Drogheda

John DILLON's brace saw Sligo Rovers ease past a limited Drogheda at the Showgrounds.

Rovers took only four minutes to go ahead as Dillon reacted first after Drogheda keeper David Quirke kept out Richie Ryan's long-range effort.

Dillon grabbed his second when firing home from the edge of the box in the 68th minute after John Russell's shot had come back off the bar.
