Hughton to swoop for Butland

NORWICH CITY boss Chris Hughton wants to make Birmingham keeper Jack Butland the first signing of his reign.

Hughton is hoping to beat Southampton to the signing of the highly rated England keeper with the Saints already making an offer that was rejected by Birmingham. Hughton is ready to shell out €4million on Butland who he sent out in loan when he was manager of Birmingham.

The move could have repercussions for Shay Given with Aton Villa boss Paul Lambert linked to current Norwich keeper John Ruddy.

Liverpool player of the season Martin Skrtel is a target for Premier League Champions Manchester City.

Contract talks with the centre back have stalled alerting City to the possibility of signing him.

So far Skrtel has refused to commit his long-term future to the club and Liverpool know they would not be able to match the wages, currently around €75,000 offered by City. Reds new boss Brendan Rogers will hold talks with the Slovakian.

Ireland striker Leon Best could be set to drop down into the Championship as a replacement for Blackburn striker Yakubu after he agreed a €5million-a-year switch to Gunanghzou Fili in China.

Blackburn and Newcastle have agreed a fee for the out of favour Newcastle forward and Steve Kean hopes to be able to convince the striker that Blackburn is the best place for him to rebuild his career.

Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomez will decide on his future after a successor is found for Harry Redknapp. The Brazilian keeper played second fiddle to veteran Brad Friedel last season.

But he hopes whoever takes over at White Hart Lane will pick him. Gomes, 31, said: "Things have changed as the manager left last week."

Shinji Kagawa will fly into Manchester tomorrow to complete his move to Old Trafford.

United have agreed a fee with Borussia Dortmund which could rise to €17million.
