'Hoops got luck in cup' says O'Neill

SHAMROCK Rovers boss Michael O'Neill admits that his side are lucky to be in the last eight of the FAI Cup after a narrow win over Longford Town.

"Longford deserved at least a replay. Maybe if we do go on and win the cup we can say that we got our bit of luck against Longford because certainly they put it up to us," said O'Neill as the Hoops beat Longford - managed by Rovers legend Tony Cousins - by a one-goal margin.

"We were very fortunate to go through. Tony's team did great for him. They are very well organised and played with a lot of heart and desire. To be honest at times we didn't match that. We were down gears mentally and physically. We can't afford to do that.

"We didn't approach the game in the right manner and are fortunate to have got through.

"We are very thankful and grateful to be in the next round."
