Happy return for Buckley as Pats win

A 15th-minute goal from Dean Kelly (pictured) saw Liam Buckley enjoy a winning return as St Patrick's Athletic manager in a feisty Premier Division encounter with Bray -- both sides ending with 10 men.

Bray's Dave Webster was dismissed for a second yellow card with 12 minutes remaining, but Pat's were soon reduced to 10 men when Jake Kelly was given a straight red following an incident involving his former team-mate Dane Massey.

The Saints restricted Bray to very few opportunities and ran out comfortable winners.

Bohs lose out at Brandywell

DERRY City got their campaign off to the perfect start by overcoming 10-men Bohemians at a packed Brandywell to secure the points.

Stephen McLaughlin's second-half goal was enough for manager Declan Devine to secure his maiden victory in the Airtricity Premier Division.

Just before the interval Adam Martin was shown a straight red card by referee Neil Doyle, after a terrible two-footed challenge on McLaughlin.

Langtry class cracks Cork

UCD gave Cork City the worst possible start to their return to Ireland's top division with the students winning 1-0.

Cork brought a large travelling faithful to the UCD Bowl but took nothing back on their long journey south.

A smashing 36th-minute goal from Mark Langtry was enough to give Martin Russell's side all three points.

Mons hang on for draw

Monaghan United earned a share of the spoils at home to Dundalk after they made their return to the Premier Division after a 10-year absence. Dundalk had the better of the chances but Chris Bennion could not be beaten in the Monaghan goals.

United finished the stronger but couldn't find a winner.
