Great to see McClean in Irish ranks

JUDGING by what Giovanni Trapattoni has been saying, James McClean will get some game time against the Czech Republic.

It sounds like James McCarthy and Seamus Coleman will get a run as well and that's all very positive.

I don't really care whether Trap was playing some sort of game with us when he first said that McClean's time would come after the Euros. What is important is that the lad is in Dublin and in an Ireland tracksuit.

Trapattoni will do things his way and I know he has said before that he would give time to young lads but didn't follow through.

But, I honestly believe that McClean is different. He's older than most players who explode onto the scene and he has physical strength to go with his ability.

We've often seen young Irish wingers in the past who had bundles of talent but didn't stack up physically to the demands of the modern game.

McClean bucks that trend and he arrived at Sunderland ready to be unwrapped and let loose. Trapattoni would be foolish to ignore a gift horse.
