Glenn: Count me in
Parrott in line for debut as Mick gets injury boost
Glenn Whelan has told Mick McCarthy he can count on him for the vital Euro 2020 tie at home to Denmark.
And McCarthy, who confirmed that Troy Parrott will move up to the senior squad from the U21 panel, also expects to have Darren Randolph and Matt Doherty fit for duty.
Whelan was taken off by Hearts just 25 minutes into a 3-0 defeat to Rangers and there were fears that his hamstring injury could force the 35-year-old to miss the must-win qualifier.
But it's emerged that Whelan was taken off early as a precaution. "He expects to be fine and available to link up with the squad on Sunday as planned," said McCarthy.
"I have been in touch with all three players and they assure me they are confident of being fit."
McCarthy also said Parrott (17) can make his senior debut. "Troy has been pushing for this step-up for some time now and I look forward to seeing him on the training ground ahead of the New Zealand game. I hope he pushes me to include him in that game."
