Given joins 'Boro on loan
SHAY GIVEN is poised for his first taste of first team football in almost a year after signing up for a relegation battle with Middlesbrough on a month's loan.
Given (37) has not played a game of any kind since last January, and his last league appearance was for Villa way back in August 2012, but the Donegal man will get some game time with strugglers Boro, potentially making his debut at home to Bolton tomorrow.
The Ireland veteran suffered a drop in form after Euro 2012 as he lost his place in the Villa side to Brad Guzan and this season has been relegated to third-choice keeper, unable to even get a place on the bench.
Meanwhile Ireland striker Paddy Madden has been stuck in limbo for several weeks after he failed to secure an exit from Yeovil Town before the close of the transfer window last night.
Madden (23) is no longer in favour with Yeovil after a falling out with manager Gary Johnson, and the club placed Madden on the transfer list earlier this week.
The Coolock lad had hoped to secure a move away from Yeovil and League One clubs Swindon Town and Rotherham United were linked with a move.
Madden, who made his Ireland debut against Wales in August, faces the prospect of being stuck at Yeovil until the window for loans reopens in January.
"We put Paddy on the transfer list and of course we have our reasons and most people know those anyway," said Johnson.
Madden scored 23 goals to help Yeovil win promotion from League One last season, but he has failed to score in 10 games this term.
