Gibson: Toffees can add to 'Pool misery

IRISH international Darron Gibson has warned Merseyside rivals Liverpool that Everton are planning to heap Cup misery on Kenny Dalglish and his team.

Everton's 2-0 victory on Tuesday night over Sunderland in the FA Cup sixth round has set up a mouthwatering Merseyside derby in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley next month.

Gibson (pictured below) was part of the United team beaten by Everton in the last four three years ago and he believes the Toffees can achieve a similar result against their cross-city rivals.

"I knew coming here that Everton were a big club capable of winning trophies and they obviously beat United in the semi-final the other year.

"I knew there was a good squad of players here and that we could do well -- and we have been -- so hopefully we can go to the semi-final and pull off a good win.

"We are playing well and everyone is obviously looking forward to the semi. It is another massive game. The fans are excited and so are we.

"We lost 3-0 the last time we played Liverpool so there will be a bit of pressure on us, but if we stick to a game plan and perform as well as we did against Sunderland then we can get a result. I was at the derby and it was disappointing. Now we've got to forget about that.

"It'll be a different prospect for them, probably our strongest side. The work we put in this week meant we knew exactly what everyone had to do, and it paid off from the back to the front.

"We made chances too, which was the main thing and Niki (Jelavic) took his goals well.

"Obviously the first game (a 1-1 draw with Sunderland) we started off a bit slowly and didn't play the way we could have. I still think we were the better team but we didn't quite show it. We knew we had to press them to get anywhere, and right from the back we hassled them well."
