Frustration for Stokes as striker sits it out
Anthony Stokes suffered another Old Firm disappointment as he watched yesterday's 2-2 thriller from the substitutes bench, writes Joe McHugh.
The former Hibs and Sunderland striker has scored in his last six matches but made way for Ki Sung Yeung at Ibrox yesterday as coach Neil Lennon opted for strength in Celtic's midfield.
Kris Commons played in an advanced role behind Gary Hooper but joined Stokes on the sidelines after goalkeeper Fraser Forster's red card.
"Of course it was tough to leave out Anthony," Neil Lennon said. "He's been in good form but sometimes away from home, at a place like Ibrox, you have to try and match up.
"Midfield is an important area and with Ki available, we feel that he is one of the best young players around, I decided to bring him in.
"Anthony has been in fantastic form for us but I wanted to have an extra man in midfield.
