Robbie Brady feels the appointment of Stephen Kenny could prove to be a fresh start for his own Irish career.

The Dubliner has endured an interrupted run in the green shirt since his Euro 2016 heroics and was frustrated during Mick McCarthy's tenure when doubts over his fitness saw him fall down the pecking order.

Kenny holds Brady in high regard, and has made that clear both publicly and privately. The Burnley player is enthused by the opportunity to turn the page.

"He's shown great confidence in me and has reassured me of my own ability and he's been great with me from the first phone call I've had with him," says the 28-year-old. "Yeah, I think it is going to be a fresh start for myself, so I'm excited and looking forward to it.

"I have a full pre-season done now - well, the best of a full pre-season you could have done - and I've come in now and I feel good. It's good to hear when someone goes in-depth of what you're good at; you know they're not making stuff up on the spot. I've had indepth conversations with him and, like I say, he's been great for me.

"He's showed good confidence in me and spoke to me about stuff what I've done previously; I feel I can do more than what I've done before, so I'm ready now and I'm fit and well and I'll just have to let my football do the talking now, and the manager can judge me after that.

"I've had conversations with him (Kenny), you get an idea on what his feelings are, the passion and everything, I know it means the world to him, this job."
