Folan fired up for Brum deal

FORMER Ireland striker Caleb Folan has promised to throw himself whole-heartedly into his new role with Birmingham City.

The 29-year-old ended his year-long stay in the USA when he quit MLS outfit Colorado Rapids and returned to England, completing his move to Chris Hughton's Birmingham last week.

Folan is now a full member of the City squad, though he may not be fit enough to make his debut in tomorrow's FA Cup clash with manager-less Chelsea, but he says he's eager to prove himself straight away.

"I play with a lot of heart," says Folan, who has been exiled from the Ireland squad for over two years, having won his last cap against South Africa in September 2009.

"I'm a hard-working player. I try and put myself about as best as I can. I try and retain the ball and link up play as well. On top of that, as a forward, you want to try and score goals. I always try and get in those areas," added Folan, who has been working hard on his fitness at Birmingham.

"It's probably been the longest I have been away from playing, which is due to the switch in season from being in America. It's great to be signed and getting back into a routine of playing and working hard and getting my fitness up to scratch," he added.
