Flood's mind on Boro
WILLO Flood says he's put his international ambitions to the back of his mind to concentrate on helping Middlesbrough back into the Premier League, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.
The 24-year-old made his 11th appearance of the season for Boro in Saturday's 1-0 defeat by his former club Cardiff City, a result which sees the promotion hopefuls from Teesside drop to 10th in the Championship table, a massive 25 points behind leaders and local rivals Newcastle United. Flood has been touted for promotion to the senior Ireland squad and is still waiting for a call-up but he says he has to be patient.
"I never got there, I went all the way up to U21 level but I'm not a full international," said Flood.
"I haven't really thought about it to be honest. If Giovanni Trapattoni comes calling then obviously I'd love to play, but my ambition is to get Boro back into the top flight -- it's one step at time."
