Fitzgerald loses fitness race
LEINSTER'S Luke Fitzgerald will have to stomach the blow of failing to convince coach Joe Schmidt that he is fit to play against Montpellier in the final Pool match of the Heineken Cup at The RDS tomorrow.
Schmidt admitted that the combined effect of neck and thigh injuries has left Fitzgerald “frustrated” and possibly only “one day” short of match fitness.
It follows hot on the heels of Fitzgerald’s omission from Ireland’s Six Nations squad.
Fly-half Jonathan Sexton’s ankle injury has cleared up well enough to partner Isaac Boss at half-back.
As promised, captain Leo Cullen will line out in the second row, despite the probability of an operation on stiffness to his tendons in Sweden next week.
