Fergie on a mission

ALEX Ferguson is on an FA Cup mission against West Ham tonight after eight blank seasons in the competition.

"We want to try and have a go at this FA Cup. We haven't had a run for a long time, two or three years, and we had some bad draws of course," he said.

Manchester United have won the FA Cup a record eleven times but apart from losing appearances in the final in 2005 and 2007, Ferguson hasn't come close to lifting the trophy in nine years.

"We're at home and we have got to take advantage of that. If we get through, we have got another home tie against Fulham so there's a big incentive for the club to make sure we get through."

For all Ferguson's new found enthusiasm for the FA Cup, his biggest concern at Old Trafford will be the form of Wayne Rooney.

"Wayne coming back is good news. He's been training for a week and looking good," he added.
