Fergie forced to shuffle his pack
ALEX FERGUSON will take the risk of changing his Manchester United side for tonight's Champions League battle at home to Basel.
Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez will definitely miss the Old Trafford tie as Basel attempt to make history - the Swiss side have yet to win in seven visits to England - but the United boss is likely to tinker with his squad, despite the inherent risks.
"I do need to get all the squad moving. I think there will be changes tonight," said Ferguson (left), likely to hand Dimitar Berbatov a leading role against Basel.
"It's sometimes backfired -- I played a fresh team over in Fenerbahce and they beat us 3-0.
"Although I want to make changes I don't want an embarrassment. So changes have to be made with a mind to still winning the game,
"If you get to 10 points, you know you're into the next stage but we'd like to win the group any way.
"If we win our next three games, we can utilise the squad. It would help and we've done that over the years."
Manchester City finally get a real taste of the big time with their game away to Bayern Munich tonight.
"For the supporters it is an important moment, to play in the Champions League against a team like Bayern," said manager Roberto Mancini.
