Balotelli's 'disrespect' for penalty angers Gerrard

EVEN when Mario Balotelli does the right thing, he does the wrong thing.

After verbally shouldering Liverpool's designated penalty taker and skipper Jordan Henderson out of the way to take the spot kick which gave Liverpool a 1-0 Europa Cup win over Beskitas at Anfield, Balotelli was accused of being 'disrespectful' by Steven Gerrard.

Ruled out of the game because of injury but recruited for ITV as a match pundit, Gerrard didn't mince his words when he saw Balotelli break team rules by demanding the ball from his skipper.

"Henderson is the captain and Balotelli showed Jordan a bit of disrespect there," said Gerrard.

"Rules are rules," he said. "Credit to Mario, he's scored, but it's not nice to see when footballers are arguing. I think Jordan has handled the situation very well."

Attempting to pour cold water on the matter, Balotelli tweeted his thanks to Henderson after the game.

"Thank you hendo for let me take the penalty.. Stop drama now. We won that's what it count. We are a team and especially we are Liverpool. Come on guys."
