Dundalk hoping to do deal with Cherrie

DUNDALK are in talks with Scottish keeper Peter Cherrie about a new deal for the 2012 season, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

Cherrie spent two and a half seasons with the Oriel Park club but was out of contract at the end of last season and was linked with a move to Shamrock Rovers in the off season, but he has now reported back for pre-season training.

"Peter Cherrie is training with us at the moment and we'll talk to him in the next week or so," said Dundalk boss Sean McCaffrey, who has a number of trialists training with the Lilywhites.

"Some will be in for a week and some for a fortnight, but we need to see them playing pre-season matches, so they'll either be in until the first pre-season match, or else they'll come back in to play a pre-season match."

IRELAND U21 star Conor Clifford has been offered a new deal by Chelsea.

The Dublin-born midfielder, 20, has yet to make his first team debut for the Blues.
