Dundalk bring in top LOI duo
Dundalk have made a clear statement of intent to hang on to their Premier Division title by making two new signings as well as persuading one of their key men to sign a new deal.
With seven departures from the title-winning squad and only one new arrival (Sean Hoare), the panel for 2017 was looking light, but boss Stephen Kenny is delighted to have lured two players from within the league, midfielder Jamie McGrath joining from St Patrick's Athletic while Danish-born defender Niclas Vemmelund moves to Dundalk after a good season with Derry City.
And Dundalk have also agreed a new deal with striker David McMillan.
"I was delighted when Stephen Kenny gave me the call. I knew that I would fit in well here and I am happy to be a part of his plans. The club are going in the right direction and I couldn't say no," said Meath native McGrath.
Vemmelund is eager to taste Champions League football with the club. "Dundalk were brilliant in Europe and they got some great results. I want to do the same this year. I want to have some good success in Europe and play in the big European games," he said.
Dundalk are still in the market for players, with Irish-born pair Conor Clifford and Steven Kinsella key targets.
