Duff not planning Ireland return

DAMIEN DUFF will not be making a sensational return to Ireland's senior international squad.

Speculation that Duff, like Shay Given, is ready to go back on his summer decision to quit international football, has been denied by sources close to the player.

Given has yet to meet with Giovanni Trapattoni but has spoken with the Ireland manager about a possible return in time for crunch World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Austria in March.

However, Duff has no plans to follow in his footsteps and is thought to be completely happy with his decision to retire after Euro 2012.

Meanwhile, Shane Long has emerged as a doubt for the Februay 6 friendly against Poland at the Aviva because of a leg injury.

"Shane has got a really severe dead leg," claimed West Brom boss Steve Clarke.

"I have to be honest - he wasn't even close for the Villa game.

"But there's 10 days to the next one against Everton and I expect him to be available for that."
