Deferred embargo aids Gers

NEWCO Rangers have accepted a 12-month transfer ban, beginning on September 1, as a condition of gaining membership of the Scottish Football Association.

It would mean Rangers could sign players in the current transfer window, but not in January or next summer.

The decision will allow Rangers boss Ally McCoist to bolster his squad who will be playing in the Third Division next season.

Charles Green's Sevco Scotland, which now owns Rangers' assets after the old club headed for liquidation, were voted into the bottom tier by Scottish Football League clubs, after failing in their bid to get into the Scottish Premier League.

A statement from the SFA read: "It has been agreed with Sevco Scotland Ltd that the registration embargo will be accepted as a primary condition of a transfer of membership.

"This embargo will begin on September 1, 2012 and end on August 31, 2013.

"Sevco Scotland Ltd have also undertaken to accept all other outstanding conditions relating to Oldco's charges of bringing the game into disrepute."
