Debuchy's Arsenal deal is close
ARSENAL started their pre-season preparations back at London Colney yesterday, with France defender Mathieu Debuchy expected to be the first confirmed signing for the FA Cup winners later this week.
Arsenal are keen to bolster the squad as quickly as possible, having stepped up their pursuit of Debuchy from Newcastle once France went out at the quarter-finals of the world Cup last weekend. The formalities of an £8million deal for the 28-year-old are understood to be close to completion with Debuchy an immediate replacement for Bacary Sagna, who left on a free transfer to Manchester City.
Arsenal have a trip to the United States at the end of the month for a warm-up match against the New York Red Bulls. It is expected those players involved in the later stages of the World Cup will not be required to travel, but England duo Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could well be on the plane if match fit.
