Cup draw throws up northside showdown
Northside rivals Bohemians and Shelbourne will face off in the tie of the round in the FAI Cup next month.
But the two most recent winners of the trophy will be on their travels as holders Dundalk go south to play Cobh Ramblers while Cork City are away to Cabinteely.
And there will be a non-league presence in the draw for the second round as Lucan United have been paired with Killester/Donnycarney while Crumlin United play Malahide United and Tipperary club St Michael's host Donegal outfit Glengad United.
Shamrock Rovers, drawn at home to Finn Harps and St Patrick's Athletic, also at home but to First Division side Bray Wanderers, will be relieved to have avoided long away trips.
The first round of the Cup will be very much a Dublin affair, 10 of the 16 ties played in or around the capital, Maynooth University Town at home to Waterford.
But the Bohs v Shels tie will be one of the most eagerly awaited. The clubs are due to ground-share for the forseeable future due to the plans to revamp Dalymount Park. Shels manager Ian Morris and seven members of his first-team squad are all ex-Bohs.
Non-league side Glebe North will be happy with their draw at home to Sligo Rovers while the two clubs based in Cobh, Ramblers and Wanderers, have both been drawn at home.
