Croly rejects claims over Fahey loan bid

SHAMROCK ROVERS have dismissed claims that Ireland international Keith Fahey is this week about to join the Hoops on loan.

It had been claimed that Birmingham City man Fahey, who has been back in Dublin on compassionate leave, was poised to sign a six-month loan deal with Rovers and Fahey did spend time training with the club, but Hoops boss Trevor Croly has ruled out a move.

"It would be with great pleasure if he was signing for us but he's not," says Croly.

"Keith is just training with us, I haven't even asked him how long he will be training. He's still an Ireland midfielder and he would have been at the European Championships were it not for injury, I wish it was true," added Croly.

Fahey last played for Birmingham in mid-October as boss Lee Clark gave the player time away from the club to deal with a family matter, and Clark last week said he expected Fahey to resume training with the club shortly.

The 30-year-old is one of 19 Birmingham players who are out of contract in the summer and Fahey is expected to move on from St Andrews, with Clark admitting that the club needs to cut costs.
