COUTINHO TO RESCUE for pool
MARTIN O'Neill has been given some good news by Everton boss Roberto Martinez after the Toffees supremo today stated that James McCarthy's injury worries were behind him.
McCarthy, 24, has been bugged by a long-standing hamstring problem which has seen him play in just one of the last 11 internationals, and there were fears he would be a doubt for the vital meeting with Poland next month.
But Martinez says that the midfielder will not only be fit for Saturday's clash with Liverpool but has also been given the all-clear.
"He is a very young man still, you get those sorts of situations where at times you pick up an injury that gives you a little bit of a problem just to get rid of it. But I now expect James to be clear and fully fit for the rest of the season," Martinez said today.
"It has been a frustrating time in this campaign, because he is a very important player for us, but I can see that the injury is well behind him now - we had reassurance yesterday and we look forward to seeing him back to his very best and finishing the season really strongly."
