Cook's no Jose as fixtures pile up for Sligo's cup specialists

SLIGO Rovers boss Paul Cook believes that his side are struggling to cope with their fixture list despite success on the field this season.

Sligo have already made it into the final of one competition as they face Monaghan United in the League Cup decider at the weekend. And last Saturday night they progressed to the last four of the FAI Cup with a 3-0 win over Monaghan. In between they have a league game, against Bohemians tomorrow night and, while Cook is enjoying the cup runs, he admits that the calendar has not been kind

"It's difficult for the FAI, they have to get games played, but we have now played last Friday, then Monday and Saturday and now Tuesday again before the final next weekend and it is getting difficult for us," said Cook after goals from Alan Keane, Romuald Boco and Mark McGoldrick put Rovers, beaten finalists in the FAI Cup last season, into the last four.

ACCEPT

"But I accept that it gets difficult for everyone. We are doing our best to finish the league in the highest possible position we can.

"We want to be in Europe next year and we are going to have to regroup fast and come out and try to beat Bohemians, which is going to be very difficult because they are a good side.

"The way we play, we're always going to concede a goal or two. If I could crack it that we score goals and keep clean-sheets all the time, I'd be Jose Mourinho, but I'm not quite that.

"I have an honest team that does its best. We're in another semi-final and we seem to get to them quite regularly, so we must be doing something right."

Amond stars as super sub as Pacos get point

IRELAND U21 cap Padraig Amond was on a high today as he made his debut for Portuguese side Pacos Ferreira last night and helped his side earn a point.

Pacos Ferreira were 2-0 down at home to Champions League side Sporting Braga when Amond came off the bench in the 58th minute, and the former Sligo Rovers man played a part as his side conjured up two goals.
