Clarets ready to call on Walters
Ireland man Jon Walters could make his long-awaited return to Premier League action this weekend as Burnley boss Sean Dyche tries to cope with a crippling injury list and a suspension for defender James Tarkowski.
Walters (34) has not played in the league for the Clarets since he suffered an injury in August and his last outing of any kind was his appearance in Ireland's World Cup draw away to Georgia in September.
But the forward came through a practice game in midweek and could feature for Dyche's side in tomorrow's league game at home to Tottenham, though Stephen Ward is still sidelined by a knee injury.
"Jon Walters is getting closer, he could be in contention," says Dyche, missing a number of key players this weekend.
"Wardy I don't think will make it, it's more of a settling-down period, it's a wear and tear situation I don't want to put timescales on it but we're hopeful it's well on the way to recovery.
"We're a little bit stretched for the first time in a while but it does happen now and again and when you add in a suspension it makes a little big stretched," he added.
A three-game ban for Tarkowski could see Ireland cap Kevin Long get a run in the defence for the Clarets.
