City v United: Key battles

Eastlands will play host to the most eagerly anticipated Manchester derby for years tomorrow when City tackle United in the Carling Cup semi-final first-leg.

The Blues are aiming to reach their first major Wembley showpiece since 1981, while United want to emphasise their status as top dogs, which they have held for well over three decades.

Carlos Tevez v Wes Brown

Tevez left Old Trafford in controversial circumstances last summer, since then he has become a cult hero among the City faithful, not just for the move itself but his superb recent form. He will be the main attacking threat. Wes Brown will need to use all his guile to stop him.

Craig Bellamy v Rafael Da Silva

If Ferguson goes ahead and plays some youngsters, in-form Bellamy could be pitched in direct confrontation with one of United's two teenage Brazilians. Bellamy will attack, but then so will Rafael.

Micah Richards v Wayne Rooney

The one-time England team-mates are set to do battle, with Rooney keen to find out whether Richards can sustain his recent improvement. This is one occasion when Roberto Mancini might prefer his man not to be scorching up to the other end in search of goals.
