City line up Baines move
MANCHESTER CITY are lining up a player-plus-cash deal for Everton and England full-back Leighton Baines.
City boss Roberto Mancini rates the left back as the best in the Premier League and originally made enquiries about the player months ago.
The Manchester outfit values the 26-year-old at £20m and will offer £10m plus the pick of two players which may include Emmanuel Adebayor and Craig Bellamy.
TOTTENHAM Hotspur: Spurs have joined the race to sign Valencia winger Juan Mata. The Spanish club has said that no offer has been made for their player who Arsenal regard as a perfect replacement for Cesc Fabregas should he leave for Barcelona.
Manager Harry Redknapp has been aware of the 23-year-old for some time and chairman Daniel Levy was impressed by Spain U21s recent performances in Denmark.
Intermediaries have sounded out Valencia about the details of the transfer and Tottenham's interest has been lodged.
NEWCASTLE UNITED: The Magpies have pulled out of a deal to sign Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge after the London club valued the forward at £20m.
Sturridge earns around £32,000 a week and scored eight goals for Bolton after joining on loan in January.
Alan Pardew is now believed to be looking elsewhere for a young, pacy striker to partner new signing Demba Ba.
SWANSEA: The Swans have called off their bid to bring Spanish international Marcos Senna to the Liberty Stadium.
The 34-year-old spoke to Swansea boss Brendan Rogers but was unable to agree terms.
