Celtic close to re-signing Forster
NEIL LENNON is set to end his summer-long search for a goalkeeper by re-signing Fraser Forster.
Celtic have stepped up talks with Newcastle and are expecting to complete another season-long loan deal in time to register Forster by 11pm to meet the UEFA deadline for tomorrow's Europa League tie with Sion. Lennon has been linked with many goalkeepers over the past few months, including Shay Given and Sunderland's Craig Gordon, but has never ruled out returning for Forster.
Forster, 23, made 44 appearances last season and returned to the Magpies with a Scottish Cup winners medal and an SPL record for clean sheets. Forster was on the bench for Newcastle in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal at the weekend and has opted to go back to Celtic on loan rather than spend a season as back up to Tim Krul. Lucasz Zaluska has conceded just one goal in three matches this season but is set to return to the bench tomorrow in the play-off to reach the group stages of the Europa League. Celtic go into the match without the injured trio of Gary Hooper, Biram Kayal and Emilio Izaguirre.
Lennon said: “The challenge now is for the players and ourselves to take the SPL form into Europe. “We've had Sion watched twice and they're a very good side. “They are clever and quite physical so we'll have to be at our best.
“We don't want to concede a goal and need to play with pace and vigour.”
