Cabaye charged over Cup clash
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew was today facing up to the prospect of having to do without key midfielder Yohan Cabaye for three matches.
The 26-year-old Frenchman was last night charged with violent conduct by the Football Association over a challenge on Brighton defender Adam El-Abd during Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round defeat on the south coast. Referee Lee Probert did not spot the incident, which left the Egyptian with a cut lip.
Should the France international accept the charge, he will miss tomorrow night's Premier League trip to Blackburn, Sunday's home clash with Aston Villa and the tough visit to Tottenham the following weekend.
Perhaps more importantly, Cabaye would be absent at the same time as regular central midfielder partner Cheick Tiote, who is away on African Nations Cup duty with Ivory Coast.
That would represent a blow to Pardew, who has seen the pair play a major role in his side's excellent league showing to date, which has left them sitting pretty in sixth place.
