Brighton eye Garvan

CRYSTAL Palace have confirmed that Championship newcomers Brighton have made a formal bid for Irish midfielder Owen Garvan, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.

The former Home Farm lad joined Palace from Ipswich last summer but he struggled to impose himself in the Eagles side last term, though Brighton boss Gus Poyet is a fan and has made a £250,000 bid.

"Brighton have enquired about Owen but I'm reluctant to let him go because he is such a good player," said Palace manager Dougie Freedman.

"He didn't find himself in the team at the end of last season but I'm sure if he comes back and gets his head down that his quality will shine through.

"Time will tell if that is in our team or someone else's," he added.
