Bohs aim to have Stokes for derby tie
Bohemians hope to have the signing of striker Eoghan Stokes completed in time for tomorrow's season opener against Shamrock Rovers.
Stokes (21) has been a free agent since he severed his ties with Leeds United last month and he had spent time with Shamrock Rovers, appearing in a pre-season friendly with the Hoops last week.
But Bohs, eager to sign another striker for the new season, have made a move for the former Ireland U19 cap and Keith Long was last night trying to complete the paperwork to sign Stokes.
The striker learned his trade with St Kevin's Boys and earned a move to Leeds United, but in a five-year spell at Elland Road he managed just one first-team appearance.
His contract was due to expire in the summer but last month Stokes cut his losses and came home.
Long was eager to sign another striker as new Ryan Swan, a recent signing from Cabinteely, suffered an injury in pre-season and will be out for six months, leaving Dinny Corcoran as the only senior striker on the books.
Bohs kick off the new season at home to Shamrock Rovers tomorrow, a game which is sold out.
